Ingredients
  

Oats Base
  • 2 cups rolled oats preferably old-fashioned
  • 4 cups water or milk for creamier oats
  • 1 pinch salt
Flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest freshly grated
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup for vegan option
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup fresh berries such as blueberries or strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds optional
  • 1 tablespoon sliced almonds optional

Method
 

Cooking Oats
  1. In a saucepan, bring the water (or milk) to a boil. Add the rolled oats and a pinch of salt.
  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are cooked to your desired consistency.
Adding Flavor
  1. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the lemon zest, honey, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Serving
  1. Divide the lemon oats into serving bowls and top with fresh berries, chia seeds, and sliced almonds as desired.
